Historically-inspired, modern-made!
Avlea Folk Embroidery brings ancient beauty to the modern world with beautiful folk embroidery kits of the finest quality. I design and make each kit by hand in my Central Oregon studio, to give you a wonderful stitching experience no matter your skill level.
Why is folk fabric so special?
Folk fabrics have been used for hundreds of years to make folk costumes and household embroideries. When you work a cross stitch design on them, they give your stitching a beautiful texture and are a delight to stitch on, plus they're made to stand up to daily use. I source mine from a 3rd-generation family mill in Athens, Greece so you can have an authentic stitching experience.
What if I'm new to cross stitch?
One of the wonderful things about cross stitch folk embroidery is that you can learn how to do it in a couple of hours and enjoy it for a lifetime! If you're new, watch my How To Cross Stitch video to get started on your folk embroidery journey.
So, you've been stitching a while now?
I can't wait to share traditional folk embroidery with you! The intricate designs, the unique color palettes, the wonderful texture of folk fabrics will provide you with stitching joy. I suggest browsing my Runners & Squares sections as they have the most intricate designs to appeal to an experienced stitcher and every design is available as a kit or a PDF pattern.
I really like my purchase but am having trouble figuring out the thread colors. The color names don't always match the threads. Like listing something as a green when it is actually blue. Once I get that figured out I can't wait to get started!
Yes, this can be frustrating! There are some DMC colors in which the color name does not seem to be close to the actual color. DMC924, 926, 927 is definitely one of these colors as it is 'grey green very dk, med, lt' but to me it looks blue. This is due to DMC having such a large collection of colors. I try to always use the standard DMC color name on my patterns so you can always Google 'DMC924' and it will show you the color so you know you have the correct one for the section of the chart you are stitching. Hope that helps! Krista
Everything looks great in the kit. I especially like that the fabric edges are finished off so it won’t fray while I’m working on it. And such a beautiful and unique design!
I love the kit but was a bit surprised at the color of the material. I expected it to be lighter, as seen in the photos. Maybe once washed it will become lighter.
I love these kits. Can’t wait to start it
I love everything about this kits: the fabric, the threads, the colors, the design. I can't wait to do it.
