The Polina cross stitch folk embroidery PDF pattern is inspired by a vintage runner from Ukraine, featuring a delightful repeating daisy motif ornamented with delicate backstitches in a geometric layout that leaves a beautiful open center, perfect for displaying a bouquet of flowers. The original textile was stitched in orange and yellow which was a little too high-contrast, so I updated the palette to golden olive and warm blue for a more restful, modern feeling in a contemporary home. It's an excellent choice for beginners or anyone drawn to the meditative quality of a simple, rhythmic repeat.

One of the things I love about folk embroidery is how a simply, tiny motif like this can stitch up into something so much more by creating unique and compelling open spaces. This really speaks to the amazing variety and sophistication found in folk embroidery.

Historically-inspired, modern-made!

Avlea Folk Embroidery brings ancient beauty to the modern world with beautiful folk embroidery kits of the finest quality. I design and make each kit by hand in my Central Oregon studio, to give you a wonderful stitching experience no matter your skill level.

Why is folk fabric so special?

Folk fabrics have been used for hundreds of years to make folk costumes and household embroideries. When you work a cross stitch design on them, they give your stitching a beautiful texture and are a delight to stitch on, plus they're made to stand up to daily use. I source mine from a 3rd-generation family mill in Athens, Greece so you can have an authentic stitching experience.
