The Kolimbari Diamonds cross stitch folk embroidery kit is inspired by the textile traditions of Crete, where intricate geometric designs featuring stars, knots, and diamonds have been worked in long bands across both woven and embroidered textiles for centuries. This table runner version brings that rich geometric vocabulary to life in a traditional multi-color palette of garnet, coral, navy blue, turquoise, leaf green, soft yellow, and taupe — a combination that is at once complex and deeply harmonious. This was my first Cretan-inspired design and I particularly love the unique color palette.
Cretan geometric embroidery is some of the most geometric in the Greek tradition, and the arrow shapes that radiate outwards from the central band remind me of tridents, a common symbol in Greek mythology.

Historically-inspired, modern-made!
Avlea Folk Embroidery brings ancient beauty to the modern world with beautiful folk embroidery kits of the finest quality. I design and make each kit by hand in my Central Oregon studio, to give you a wonderful stitching experience no matter your skill level.
Why is folk fabric so special?
Folk fabrics have been used for hundreds of years to make folk costumes and household embroideries. When you work a cross stitch design on them, they give your stitching a beautiful texture and are a delight to stitch on, plus they're made to stand up to daily use. I source mine from a 3rd-generation family mill in Athens, Greece so you can have an authentic stitching experience.
What if I'm new to cross stitch?
One of the wonderful things about cross stitch folk embroidery is that you can learn how to do it in a couple of hours and enjoy it for a lifetime! If you're new, watch my How To Cross Stitch video to get started on your folk embroidery journey.
So, you've been stitching a while now?
I can't wait to share traditional folk embroidery with you! The intricate designs, the unique color palettes, the wonderful texture of folk fabrics will provide you with stitching joy. I suggest browsing my Runners & Squares sections as they have the most intricate designs to appeal to an experienced stitcher and every design is available as a kit or a PDF pattern.
The pattern and the colors are lovely. I expected a cream colored linen-type cloth based on the photos with comparable finishing. What I received was a brown evenweave. I will be completing this on material of my own choosing because this was definitely NOT what I was expecting. If i purchase again, I will only purchase the pattern.
The Traditional Groundcloth I use in my kits is made from Greek-grown cotton and is unprocessed (not dyed or bleached), so the fabric has some color variation for each production run because it is an entirely natural product. I have a 100% happy guarantee, so I've refunded your kit as the fabric wasn't what you're expecting.
Perfect. Can’t wait to get started on it. Thanks for your beautiful kits.
Love the kit. Graph easy to read and so much fun. Beautiful design and color.
I have made three of your patterns. This is my favorite so far.
Just staring the project but the materials are what I expected and so far looks really good. Can’t wait to see the finished product.
