The Luminita cross stitch folk embroidery kit pays homage to the lovely embroidery traditions of Romania with a border of bright stars and delicate vinework. The colorway is a modern twist on a classic: ecru and deep blue stitched on blue evenweave rather than the traditional white ground, giving the finished piece a rich, inverted quality that feels genuinely fresh. The easy fringe finish works up quickly and the result is a basket cloth that sits beautifully on any table. I love stitching on the 25ct evenweave as it's very easy to see the threads and the fabric has a plush denseness that's really satisfying.
Romanian folk embroidery is known for geometric, stylized border designs, and this star and vine combination is a lovely example of the tradition at its most graceful.

Historically-inspired, modern-made!
Avlea Folk Embroidery brings ancient beauty to the modern world with beautiful folk embroidery kits of the finest quality. I design and make each kit by hand in my Central Oregon studio, to give you a wonderful stitching experience no matter your skill level.
Why is folk fabric so special?
Folk fabrics have been used for hundreds of years to make folk costumes and household embroideries. When you work a cross stitch design on them, they give your stitching a beautiful texture and are a delight to stitch on, plus they're made to stand up to daily use. I source mine from a 3rd-generation family mill in Athens, Greece so you can have an authentic stitching experience.
What if I'm new to cross stitch?
One of the wonderful things about cross stitch folk embroidery is that you can learn how to do it in a couple of hours and enjoy it for a lifetime! If you're new, watch my How To Cross Stitch video to get started on your folk embroidery journey.
So, you've been stitching a while now?
I can't wait to share traditional folk embroidery with you! The intricate designs, the unique color palettes, the wonderful texture of folk fabrics will provide you with stitching joy. I suggest browsing my Runners & Squares sections as they have the most intricate designs to appeal to an experienced stitcher and every design is available as a kit or a PDF pattern.
I haven't even gotten into this yet. I glanced at it and I know where it's at. I know it's going to be beautiful and I appreciate seeing the owner of the company stitching every day because she gives me inspiration. I'm going through a bout of Seasonal Affective Disorder and I have no energy. The real beauty in this kit is the inspiration from the owner on her social media account! I just have to limit myself to being inspired by one kit and not purchasing 30 for the little dopamine rushes that I get.
It’s beautiful and I can’t wait to start it.
Beautiful kit! I haven't started yet but I'm excited to begin!
