The Folk Fabric Sampler cross stitch folk embroidery kit is one of my favorite ways to introduce new stitchers to the world of folk embroidery fabrics. Stitch a trio of beautiful bookmarks, each on a different classic folk fabric, so you can feel the difference between them firsthand and discover which one you love most (or maybe all three!). Three traditional borders--a small diamond, a laurel leaf, and a carnation--are stitched in a classic Mediterranean palette of terra cotta, warm blue, green, and gold for a set of bookmarks to enjoy with your next read or to gift!
The three fabrics included are the most popular of all of my folk fabrics: 26ct Traditional Groundcloth, 26ct Mikini ivory, and 30ct Mikini ivory. Each has its own distinctive hand and texture, and stitching all three side by side is the best way to understand what makes each one special.

Historically-inspired, modern-made!
Avlea Folk Embroidery brings ancient beauty to the modern world with beautiful folk embroidery kits of the finest quality. I design and make each kit by hand in my Central Oregon studio, to give you a wonderful stitching experience no matter your skill level.
Why is folk fabric so special?
Folk fabrics have been used for hundreds of years to make folk costumes and household embroideries. When you work a cross stitch design on them, they give your stitching a beautiful texture and are a delight to stitch on, plus they're made to stand up to daily use. I source mine from a 3rd-generation family mill in Athens, Greece so you can have an authentic stitching experience.
What if I'm new to cross stitch?
One of the wonderful things about cross stitch folk embroidery is that you can learn how to do it in a couple of hours and enjoy it for a lifetime! If you're new, watch my How To Cross Stitch video to get started on your folk embroidery journey.
So, you've been stitching a while now?
I can't wait to share traditional folk embroidery with you! The intricate designs, the unique color palettes, the wonderful texture of folk fabrics will provide you with stitching joy. I suggest browsing my Runners & Squares sections as they have the most intricate designs to appeal to an experienced stitcher and every design is available as a kit or a PDF pattern.
I finally got the kit four days ago.
I’m just finishing one bookmark. I do love the designs and everyone that sees me doing it is wanting me to make one for them. 😅…So far, love them ! Can’t wait to do something larger - some embroidery instead of cross stitch.
It's so beautiful and the colors are lovely. I've already started on one of the bookmarks.
So much fun! I am a beginner, so it was a great first project for me.
This is my second kit from Avlea and I love having everything I need all in one package!
I LOVE this kit and was very interested in seeing the Miniki and Traditional Groundcloth in person. They feel beautiful in the hand. I haven't worked on the project yet (that's next in line) but am anxious to start. And of course, the three patterns, like all the Avlea patterns, are beautiful. I just love these folk embroidery designs so much! Thank you for all your efforts!
