How to make a needlebook
Share
A needlebook is a terrific project that is both beautiful and practical. I keep mine filled with extra tapestry needles, a few sharp needles, and some pins so I have everything I need when I’m stitching or hand sewing.
Here’s how to make one:
Step 1: Stitching
Stitch your design. The design shown is the Petite Pom needlebook kit and can be found on the Embroidery Kits page.
After stitching, press lightly with a medium iron to set your stitches and remove any creases.
Step 2: Trimming
Trim your embroidery to the measurements provided in the pattern in the kit.

Place your lining fabric on a table, right side up. Position your embroidery on top of the lining, right sides together.

Step 3 Sewing
Sew your embroidery and lining fabric together around the perimeter, using ¼” seam allowance and leaving a 2-1/2” opening along the bottom edge.

Trim the corners on an angle to reduce bulk and then turn your needlebook right side out through the 2-1/2” opening. Use a chopstick to gently ease out the corners. Press, then press again folding needlebook in half. Blind stitch opening closed.

Step 4 Adding the “Pages”
Cut the wool felt in your kit into two pieces 3.5 x 5 inches. Put one on top of the other and center them in your needlebook. Attach them to the needlebook by stitching through all layers by hand or machine.

Step 5 Finishing
Sew your snap closure, using white sewing thread or a single strand of DMC embroidery floss, positioning snap in center of page.
Fill with your favorite needles and pins and admire your handiwork!
